Edward Snowden, because Hong Kong is to be deported to Sri Lankans.

In the wake of the Hong Kong government’s rejection of their asylum claims late last week, the Sri Lankans and Filipino who sheltered whistleblower Edward Snowden in 2013 are in fear of being locked up in immigration detention centres and separated from their children.
The Sri Lankans—Supun Kellapatha and Nadeeka Nonis, along with their two children and Ajith Pushpakumara—and Filipina Vanessa Rodel and her daughter had sheltered former NSA contractor Edward Snowden in their homes when he was on the run from the American government for leaking information about their illegal civilian surveillance programmes. Following the exposure last year of the crucial role they played in sheltering him, they have faced a series of trials and tribulations at the hands of the Hong Kong government, culminating in the rejection of their asylum claims. With the Canadian government yet to respond to their appeal for asylum in Canada, time is running out for the families.

What is the difference between Tamils of India and Sri lanka?

Reader comments on one of the stub.

Majority of Tamils live in India and call Tamil Nadu home.  Sri Lanka's Tamils on the other hand are a minority within the island nation and live mostly in the North and Eastern parts of the country. (that is closer to Tamil  Nadu as well)

SL Tamils are native to Sri Lanka as Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. Both of these people are settled in BC as we have records. Indian Tamils are brought by british to maintain their Tea / Rubber estates in their colonial period. Now lets find the cultural differences below.

Donald Trump opinion of South Asia

US national security adviser HR McMaster’s and  prime minister  narendra modi

US national security adviser Herbert Raymond McMaster was in South Asia this week and he managed to send some signals about Washington’s priorities. In what was the first formal high-level exchange between the US and Pakistan under the Donald Trump administration, McMaster reviewed efforts aimed at stabilizing neighbouring Afghanistan and conveyed a strong message to Pakistani officials that there is an urgent “need to confront terrorism in all its forms”. He was categorical in his assessment of Pakistani complicity in destabilizing Afghanistan when he underscored that “as all of us have hoped for many, many years, we have hoped that Pakistani leaders will understand that it is in their interest to go after these groups less selectively than they have in the past and the best way to pursue their interests in Afghanistan and elsewhere is through diplomacy, not through the use of proxies that engage in violence”.

Rajapaksa xenophobia, and the inability of rulers.

crisis group's recommendations focus on, however, the trend Rajapaksa country, showed no concern about the country's mess, even if the responsibility of this government is to take a stake in power.
Two years into President Maithripala Sirisena’s term, Sri Lanka’s fragile hopes for lasting peace and cooperation across party and ethnic lines are imperilled. Despite significant achievements in the coalition government’s first nine months, progress on most of its reform agenda has slowed to a crawl or been reversed. As social tensions rise and the coalition slowly fractures, it is unclear whether it can push its signature new constitution through parliament and to a national referendum. Neither the president nor prime minister has made a serious attempt to win support for a more inclusive polity or to reform the national security state to tackle the institutionalised impunity that has fed ethnic unrest and harmed all communities. To protect democratic gains, enable lasting reforms and reduce risks of social and political conflict, the “unity government” should put aside short-term party and individual political calculations and return to a politics of reform and openness.

Global political change

I’ll ramble a bit but will get there. There have been many times in history when great men (and women) have appeared, led, and achieved great things. I am sure many of us think we are overdue for the next one, particularly in the light that more people are alive today than have ever died. The world recently seems somehow rather lost, directionless. In many countries in every continent, people are unhappy with their leaders. Everywhere, people are crying out for change, but no-one inspirational comes forward to lead. Where are today’s great men and women hiding? Sadly, I don’t know either.

New technology and old religion

Augmented reality is upending the interface between physical reality and human desire to shape our universe

The Oracle has spoken. His vision will soon become your personal gadget. In the latest F8 annual global developer conference last month, the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, announced his vision of new technologies. He wants to change our lives by changing the way we perceive, engage and experience the real world around us. He wants to create augmented reality to spice up the mundane reality of our everyday world such as using an app to fill a cereal bowl with images of tiny swimming sharks.
Augmented reality is like this. It begins with dissatisfaction with the way the world appears before us. It panders to the worst of our human desires when it creates a world which is special to each one of us as if the world should be amenable to our desires rather than the other way around.

What makes song lyrics poetry?

When Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize in literature last October, it produced a bonanza of debate over questions that had long dominated late-night dorm-room and barstool conversations. Is pop music poetry? Are pop songs poems? For some of us, the controversy harkened back to what was once a staple of the American classroom, the with-it prof who proved his subversive bona fides by treating rock lyrics — “Mister Tambourine Man” was a favorite subject, if my memories of my undergraduate days are correct — as legitimate objects of critical analysis. The result was usually just embarrassing, for everyone concerned.

A sacred geography

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second visit to Sri Lanka in two years would hopefully launch a productive new phase in bilateral relations. In his first visit during March 2015, Modi promised to end India’s prolonged neglect of the very special relationship with Sri Lanka. Many reasons, including narrow domestic political considerations of previous governments, led to Delhi’s monumental errors in dealing with Colombo.
This had huge costs — in terms of generating a trust deficit and entrenched negative perceptions of India as a regional bully, insensitive to Lankan nationalism and sovereignty. Since the first visit, there has been an intensification of sustained high-level political engagement with Lanka. The Modi government also put new emphasis on expanding economic engagement with Sri Lanka.
